What is “SNOW MIKU”?

"SNOW MIKU" is the character who enlivens the wintery Hokkaido. The design is based on "a pure white snow sculpture of 'Hatsune Miku,'" that was created for "Sapporo Snow Festival 2010.” Since then, a “SNOW MIKU” festival using “SNOW MIKU” as a main character has been held in Hokkaido every year. The costume design for "SNOW MIKU" is selected in an online competition on different themes every year, and as for 2016, the theme is “the winter sports you can enjoy in Hokkaido.” "SNOW MIKU" will liven up Hokkaido this winter, together with all of you creators, as it has done for several years!

What is “Rabbit Yukine”?

"Rabbit Yukine" is a character as a pet of "SNOW MIKU" and was designed using lepus timidus ainu (a kind of mountain hare) as a motif. It was born by being chosen as "SNOW MIKU"'s pet, the character based on animals in winter of Hokkaido, from among the public. "Rabbit Yukine" livens up wintery Hokkaido with "SNOW MIKU".

The history of “SNOW MIKU” and “Rabbit Yukine”

The “SNOW MIKUs” of past years are lined up in their order of appearance. “SNOW MIKU” since 2012 and “Rabbit Yukine” since 2014 have been enlivening Hokkaido winters with various costumes on different themes every year.

Theme for the costume: The winter sports you can enjoy in Hokkaido

A public competition was held for the 2016 costume design in a “Piapro official collaboration”, on the posting & collaboration site “piapro.” The designs which passed the initial screening were announced at “Nico Nico live,” and the winning design was chosen by the fans’ vote.

What is “Hatsune Miku”?

“Hatsune Miku” is “singing software” and “the character of the package” developed by Crypton Future Media, INC. whose head office is in Sapporo, Hokkaido. “Hatsune Miku” became hugely popular as users have posted their songs and videos on the Internet. “Hatsune Miku” also gathers attention as a virtual singer character and is active in various fields, for example, merchandising development and live performance at home and abroad.

*”Kagamine Rin”, “Kagamine Len”, “Megurine Luka”, “MEIKO” and “KAITO” are also virtual singers developed by Crypton Future Media, INC.
